Their primary focus has been to supply heavy construction equipment to the construction, mining, oil exploration and municipal governments in North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. Starting with one location and 22 employees in 1984, General Equipment has grown to 250 employees in six US locations including Fargo, Minot, Bismarck and Williston ND, Sioux Falls SD and Shakopee MN as well as two locations in Canada with Regina, SK and Winnipeg, MB.

CHALLENGES

Don Shilling, President of GES, says: “When you sell customers expensive assets, which they use to make profits for their companies, it is important to have the right information available to support their efforts. To respond to customer needs, the system must have the capacity to deliver organized information quickly and the capability of tracking assets and business processes. We needed a system in which every sale to a customer, from whole goods to parts and service, can be monitored and examined. So, we continue to stay ahead of their potential future needs. “The distributor system we operated did a fairly good job of the basics, but we wanted more. We wanted an ERP solution that could help us grow and better control our business, with all the information available at our fingertips to support our customers.”

GES participated in a dealer consortium, which outlined the system requirements and scrutinized three major vendors. GES selected e-Emphasys ERP for three main reasons: its breadth and flexibility, its strong monitoring and reporting capabilities for department managers and owners, and its modern and future-proof technology foundation.
